As the founder of the Bloubosrand Community Forum, Klarika became aware of the desperate need for animal welfare in the informal settlements of Bloubosrand.

 

She then formed the Bloubosrand Animal Welfare Group as a sub-committee of the Bloubosrand Community Forum in an attempt to fulfil this need.A Community Forum (Res. Ass.) is, by law, a group of concerned residents who can run the organisation as they see fit. Klarika created the organisation’s constitution with Bashkir Patel, a Chartered Accountant which was checked by the then CEO of the Black Lawyers Ass. residing in Bloubosrand.

 

Over the years, Klarika has met with some resistance and considerable apathy from the council regarding this initiative. 

The council is responsible for expropriating land in the Bloubosrand area and allowing a huge squatter camp to develop there.

In addition to this, 80 shacks from Inanda were placed on private land on Agnes Road right opposite houses. 

 

As a result, she took the project into her own hands and has been working to gain awareness and support from the public.

 

Klarika has dedicated her life, energy and personal resources to helping animals in distress. She does not receive any financial assistance from anyone, and she does not accept cash. She travels daily into poor neighbourhoods such as the Kya Sand informal settlement and Cosmo City, partnering with these communities to bring relief to abused and neglected animals. She also helps to teach those in the communities about the proper care and humane treatment of the animals, as well as teaching them how to eat healthily the vegetarian/vegan way.
